Anybody ever see one of these winch motors?

Postby yachtwork » Fri Jul 30, 2010 11:42 pm

I have a 2003 deck windlass from France on a 58ft Catana catamaran. The winch maker is out of business. The motor has burned up and I'm trying to figure the motor brand so I can buy a new one. Does anyone recognize this motor? Maybe Bosh, or ?

By the way this is the chain tangle left over from the winch paying out all 300ft of 13mm chain.

Thanks

I don't recognize the motor but they are usually automobile type starter motors and can be rebuilt by the same folks who rebuild alternators and starters for automobiles

Is that soot all over the motor? Ouch.

+1 on the starter shops, it's just a big starter/generator winding.

Thanks for the help. Turns out it's a Leroy Somer winch motor that was in use on Beneteau and Catana. No longer made or supported. The armature is cooked so it can't be repaired. I'm now adapting a 6.8hp 24v winch motor to repair the winch.

Thanks again.
